Ooh yeah that’s a good idea. Now you’ve got me thinking. If I had to say off the top of my head I think the strongest progressive pro life argument would be something like “we should always be expanding the protection of human rights to more and more people” , and the best pro choice conservative argument would be a libertarian “the government shouldn’t tell me what to do”. But I’ll be wondering if those are the best ones for each side. Thanks Tom!
The situation in Israel is pretty complicated and I think you need to know a lot about it in order to take a certain position. I don't know much and I don't have a solid opinion on it. I think what you have written here is a good exercise and food for thought.
I will ask you to please not write a similar article about abortion. Your other article that you referenced was bad enough. Imagine being in Civil War times and writing that about slavery. I know I use the slavery analogy a lot, but I truly believe that the greatest sins of America (in secular terms, human rights violations) are slavery and abortion. If our country is judged by God by how we treat the most vulnerable, then I ask, who is more vulnerable than a slave or the unborn?
I'm sorry, but I should have said in my first comment that I don't condemn anyone who has participated in an abortion or has promoted it. God loves us no matter what. I apologize for being insensitive.
That's a challenging and helpful exercise in rhetoric for the sake of moral clarity. I'd like to see it similarly applied to the abortion debate.
